From the Principal

Dear Families

As we approach the end of 2020, we reflect on what has been an unusual and challenging year for us all. Your children have shown resilience and flexibility in coping with change and extenuating circumstances. That is testament to the support you have provided to both them and their schooling. I thank you for your willingness to adapt to the rules and requirements that have had to be in place this year with regards to being on school grounds and attending events.

Staff Changes for 2021

Some members of staff will be leaving us at the end of the year. Ms Kate Carthy and Mrs Emma Lambert have completed their contracts at Shelley PS. Congratulations to Ms Carthy who has won a teaching position at a metropolitan primary school. We thank them both for being an important part of the team this year.

2020 Graduation Ceremony

On Tuesday morning we officially said farewell to our 2020 Year 6 students at their Graduation Assembly. Sixty-two students graduated in style at a ceremony attended by family and special guests. Following their busy morning, they set off on a River Cruise and enjoyed lunch and dancing with their friends.

We are all justifiably proud of each and every one of the graduating students. I wish all students and families a wonderful holiday before they begin the next part of their journey – high school. They have been well prepared and supported by their teachers and families to embrace the challenges that lie ahead and I am confident that they will continue to be successful and happy!

End of Year Concert

The end of year concert was held yesterday morning and what a wonderful event it was! All of the hard work students have put into rehearsing throughout the term really paid off. Congratulations to all the children on their wonderful performances.

Class Lists for 2021

Due to a technical glitch, families will not receive advice of the placement of their children for next year until tomorrow. These classes are provisional and based on anticipated enrolments for 2021. Once the class lists are posted, they will not be changed unless there are exceptional circumstances, but as the Principal, I reserve the right to transfer students from one class to another if the need arises.

I may also need to change the class configuration in response to changes in the enrolment profile over the holidays and the start of the new school year.

Principal Position

The process for the Principal position has been finalised. I am pleased to announce that I will continue in the position for the next 12 months while Gillian Murgia is on leave. Thank you for your support and kindness throughout the year.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and safe holiday with your children. I look forward to welcoming returning students and new students to school on Monday 1 February, 2021.

YEAR 6 GIFT TO THE SCHOOL

The 2020 Student Councillors have had a very different year. They were unable to organise many activities because of COVID restrictions. This year’s Student Councillors raised $1100. This will be used to purchase a new podium for the school. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us this year.

Second Hand Uniforms

Our second hand uniform shop accepts donations, clothing must be washed and in good condition. Donations can be dropped off at the administration office.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION RIVER CRUISE

On Tuesday 15th December 2020, the Year 6 students went on a Graduation River Cruise. The students had a great time dancing their way up and down the Swan River.

The Canteen will be open for service the first day of school for students Monday 1 February 2021.

Our school canteen operates three days a week Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Helping Hands News

Welcome to Helping Hands Shelley – Term 4, 2020

Pupil Free Day (Friday 18^th December)

Please be advised that Helping Hands Shelley will be CLOSED on Friday 18th December 2020.

If you require care for your child on this day, an alternative may be to attend our Queen of Apostles OSHClub service as they are running an all day session from 7.00am to 6.00pm at a cost of $66.90 (before any applicable Child Care Subsidy). Many families are eligible for Child Care Subsidy, which reduces the out of pocket cost of outside school hours care. To establish what level of CCS you may be entitled to please contact the Centrelink Family Assistance Office on 13 61 50.

To book in, please log in to your online account at www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au and book in under the ‘Pupil Free Day’ room.

Christmas Break Closure

Please be advised that all Helping Hands and OSHClub services will be closed over the Christmas break from 21^st December – 1^st January inclusive.

School Holiday Program

OSHClub Queen of Apostles and OSHClub Willetton will be offering vacation care from Monday 4^th January – Friday 29^th January. Program flyers are available in service.

Please note that you will need to use your iParent Portal account to enrol directly with the service you wish to attend, as enrolment information is not shared across services.

If you wish to book your child in at these services, please access your existing online account at www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au and you will be able to add your desired service by:

selecting ‘Find A Place’
click ‘Yes’ to ‘Do you know the name of the Service you would like to enrol in?’
entering in the desired service name
selecting your child from the drop down
click ‘Submit’
complete the initial waiting list
click ‘Submit’
complete the enrolment form
click ‘Finalise’

Your child’s enrolment will then be approved by the Service Coordinator.

If you are already enrolled with the service, please log in to your online account at www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au and book in under the Vacation Care room.

Please note that all online bookings MUST be made 5 days prior, due to staffing ratio requirements. To book within this period, please contact your service directly for further assistance. Please note that a $4 late booking fee applies for bookings made within 5 days of the session commencing.

Term 1, 2021

Helping Hands Shelley will be recommencing Before and After School Care on Monday 1^st February 2021.

Medical/Additional Needs

In order to ensure quality care for your child at Helping Hands, please speak to any of our friendly staff regarding any additional needs your child may have. This includes, but is not limited to:

Health/Medical (e.g. anaphylaxis, asthma, allergies)
Dietary (e.g. food restrictions due to health or religious reasons)
Behavioural

If there have been any recent changes or updates to your child’s health or medical needs, please approach the Coordinator (Olivia) to discuss ways we can best support your child while they are in our care.

Please also note that children with Anaphylaxis MUST have a current Doctor’s Medical Plan and Epipen to attend each session.

Should you wish to review our medical policies, please feel free to approach any of our friendly staff to obtain a copy.
