SEEC offers extension for particularly talented students in digital technologies reading and mathematics.
The Shelley Enrichment & Extension Class (SEEC) Program is focussed on challenging and extending the literacy and numeracy skills of students from years 2 – 6. Data from a range of whole school and normed assessments is considered in selecting SEEC groups.
This extension model, where students are removed from the classroom and grouped together for a specific purpose reflects current research[1] and provides the following benefits:
a. A well-implemented ability-grouped program for gifted students can be of great value with minimal impact on other learners in the same cohort[2]
b. Targeted teaching for students in the home room who need greater structure and more repetition to achieve success.
Our most capable students are more likely to learn and retain science, mathematics and language content accurately when taught much faster than ‘normal’ class pace.[3]
SEEC is a privilege for students it is the expectation of the school that students attend all, or nearly all, sessions, behave appropriately and produce the best effort. Failure to meet those conditions may result in removal from the program.
