From the Principal

We hope everyone is having a happy and successful fourth term.

As the weather warms up, I would like to remind families of the importance of drinking water.

The recommended daily intake of water for children is 5 cups for students from Kindy to Year 3 and up to 6 cups for older students. If they are physically active, a little more is a very good idea. More information can be found here: Hydration tips for children

Building and Grounds

A contractor has been approved to replace the floor in Room 18. The work is scheduled for the next holiday period. We hope to have it up and running as a functioning classroom from the beginning of 2025.

Our contractor will commence work on the ECE playground upgrade over the Christmas break.

Maths Olympiad

We recently competed in the Maths Olympiad over several weeks. 10 of our students finished in the top 10% of all students. An amazing performance. I would particularly lie to thank Mrs Donaldson for her leadership of these students in this program.

Planning for 2025

Planning has begun for 2025. We anticipate some staff changes and minimal enrolment growth. If your family is planning on moving to another school or is likely to be late back from holidays in 2025, please let us know as soon as possible via email at: shelley.ps@education.wa.edu.au

End of Year

The end of year concert will be on Tuesday, 10th December. The format will be as per 2023. This year we are having Christmas as our theme.

Student numbers for 2025 are slightly down from 2024, but not significantly. We anticipate a similar class structure next year. We will not release class lists until January 2025. However, students with special needs will know their new classroom by the end of this year. There will be an early ‘Meet the Teacher’ opportunity for those students prior to the commencement of term one.

ECE Playground after-school

At the end of the school day, our expectation is that all kindergarten and pre-primary students are released from the classroom into the care of a responsible person, who then takes them home.

If families are staying for a few minutes after school, it is the responsibility of parents and carers to watch their children and ensure they are playing and behaving in a safe way.

Room 3 Comparing Toys from Past to Present.

They have been comparing toys from the past with those we have today. They then made an old-fashioned Cup and Ball toy.

River Rangers Term 4

As the end of the year draws to a close, the River Rangers have some terrific opportunities that will leave them with fond memories. On Monday, The Department of Transport – Marine Education, visited the school and gave an entertaining and informative session on the topic of boat safety. The Rangers learnt about life jackets, and boating requirements and even got to see Tom dress-up ready for a day of fishing, the presenters releasing flares (they have permission) and climbed onboard one of the Department’s boats. All practical knowledge for the up and coming Rottnest excursion.

All photos are currently available to purchase, but they will be removed from our website at the end of Term 4 in readiness for next year.

Canning’s Baha’i Inspired Children’s Festival

On the 5th of October (during the term 3 school holidays), the Canning Bahá’í youth brought together children, families, and friends for the Children’s Festival at Shelley Primary School.

Around 35 children from Shelly, Riverton and surrounding neighborhoods attended the whole-day event. The theme “Unity” was woven into every activity, from arts and crafts to sport and song.

The festival’s theme of unity was explored through a variety of creative activities. From collaborative art projects to interactive storytelling sessions, every child had the chance to participate in activities that encourage working together, celebrating each other’s unique talents, and building a sense of shared purpose.
