From the Principal

We hope everyone is having a happy and successful fourth term.

As the weather warms up, I would like to remind families of the importance of drinking water.

The recommended daily intake of water for children is 5 cups for students from kindy to Year 3 and up to 6 cups for older students. If they are physically active, a little more is a very good idea. More information can be found here: Hydration tips for children.

Interschool Athletics

We had another very successful interschool athletics carnival earlier this term. We had numerous students win individual honours and, most importantly, achieved significant team success.

We had two students achieve runner up champion awards – Isabella and Rahul P. We had another four students who were year level champions – Cornelius, Sophia, Zeke and Hazem.

We have a strong focus on personal best at Shelley, and our students certainly came together in the team events and did their best. We won or placed second in most of the team games, lifting our overall standing so that our school finished second outright. That result meant that, as one of the smaller schools, we won the meritorious shield again.

Congratulations to all students, and special thanks to Mr Hall and Mr Athanassiou for their efforts in preparing our team.

End of Year Awards

As the end of the year approaches, we start looking to our book awards. Each year each class recognises two students for their efforts over the course of the year.

Each classroom selects a student for their citizenship qualities. These personal qualities include teamwork, kindness towards classmates, commitment to personal best, and a positive attitude in their class activities throughout the year.

The second award is an achievement award and is awarded to a student who has shown continuous improvement in learning, maintained a positive effort, actively engaged in learning experiences, and achieved their personal best in a range of learning areas.

The Year 6 awards are announced at the Graduation assembly on the last Monday of the term. The criteria for these awards are too numerous for this space. That information can be found on our website.

Planning for 2025

Planning has begun for 2025. We anticipate some staff changes and minimal enrolment growth. If your family is planning on moving to another school or is likely to be late back from holidays in 2025, please let us know as soon as possible via email at: shelley.ps@education.wa.edu.au

Game Changers Awards – Congratulations

The students did an amazing job and we are incredibly proud of the effort of our students. We had wonderful feedback from others about the students’ prototypes. Our Year 6 boys came out with Best Use of STEM in the Year 5/6 category. Thank you to everyone that helped out with making the Game Changers a success this year

Teacher Appreciation Week

Thank you to our amazing P&C and a couple of our wonderful parents for providing a delicious morning tea for the staff. It was such a lovely surprise. Your continuous support of our school is greatly appreciated!

Side by Side Language Award Ceremony

Today, 4 of our amazing students attended the Side by Side Language Award Ceremony at Willetton SHS.

Valentina and Ellie from Year 3

Anahya and Maral from Year 4

Congratulations! Wunderbar!

Here is what the competition is about.

Two students of a similar year level stand side by side and hold a conversation by asking and answering questions about any topic using familiar language that has recently been explored in class. The conversation is filmed, uploaded, and entered into a competition.

The conversation should sound as natural as possible. This is an opportunity for students to apply the language structures that have been practiced previously, but in a slightly different context. Language fillers, error correction, survival phrases and repair strategies are allowed and tolerated in order to sustain interaction. Emphasis is on meaning making and language fluency, rather than language accuracy
