ECE Playground
At the end of the school day, our expectation is that all Kindergarten and pre-primary students are released from the classroom into the care of a responsible person, who then takes them home.
Families are welcome to stay for a few minutes after school, it is the responsibility of parents and carers to watch their children and ensure they are playing and behaving in a safe way. All families are expected to be out of the area by 3.20pm.
Please do not allow your children to move equipment or ask to re-enter the classrooms, staff are working.
Student Attendance
Every day that a student does not attend school can have a negative impact on their learning. We know that student progress slows or stops once their attendance falls below 90% of days. We will not authorise student absence of more than 10% of school days in any term unless there are medical or other extraordinary circumstances.
That does not, of course, mean that you can’t take your child away on a holiday. We know the importance of family connections and how difficult that is when the family is overseas. It does mean that extended absences for family holidays will be recorded as unauthorised in accordance with Education Department guidelines.
Having said that illness is always a reason to keep your child home. Home is the best place for them to recover and rest and also to prevent sharing their illness with others. Coughs and colds are already prevalent along with gastro. The Health Department directive states that children should not return to school after gastro until 24 hours after they last vomit. Please be understanding when we need to call you to collect your sick child.
Family Court
Parents and carers are reminded that school staff support families where there are court orders in place. For us to be effective, we need to have a copy of the relevant court orders.
Please remember our priority is to support the child, not to intervene with parents. We do not enforce court orders.
Shining at Shelley
As well as our excellent academic program, we try hard to promote other opportunities for students to excel. Last year, we invested in table tennis coaching and equipment as we have many students who love this sport.
One of our very talented Year 4 students, Hannah, recently competed in the National Hopes 2025 Table Tennis competition in Victoria. The event took place a week prior to the school holidays. Hannah participated in the Mini Hopes Girls category. Hannah won a bronze medal in her category, showcasing her dedication and hard work. This achievement is a testament to her commitment to the sport and her ability to balance her academic responsibilities with her passion for table tennis.

Student Absence Notification
To notify the school about a student’s absence, we kindly ask parents to send either an email or a text message (SMS). This communication should include the following details: the student’s name, room number, reason for the absence (eg, illness or a medical appointment), and the relevant date(s).
Every absence your child has must be accompanied with an explanation.
Email: Shelley.PS.absentees@education.wa.edu.au
Absentees SMS: 0437 488 724
Planned absences (such as a family holiday) taken during term time should be notified in writing to the school in advance. Please contact the school principal via email to request the absence. This process helps the school accurately document the absence and ensures a valid explanation is provided.
Please direct the email to the principal: Shelley.PS.absentees@education.wa.edu.au
Thank you for your cooperation and support!
Uniforms
With the colder weather students are wearing warmer clothes. Please make sure they align with our uniform policy, if they are wearing clothes that are not from the uniform shop (track pants, tights, leggings, jumpers and jackets) they need to be royal blue. Jeans are not to be worn. As you are aware jumpers and jackets magically end up scattered across the school – please make sure they are clearly named and that the jacket your child brings home belongs to them; that they haven’t mistakenly picked up someone else’s. Our second hand uniform shop is always looking for extra stock, so if you want to make some space please send along any uniforms, in good condition, that no longer fit.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic at Kindy
Last week, our Kindy students took part in a special Teddy Bear Picnic. Each child brought along a favourite teddy and made their bear ear ‘disguise’ to wear for the day. They shared picnic snacks, played parachute games, and pretended to be bears exploring in the forest. It was a great opportunity for creative play, social interaction, and making happy memories together.
