From the Principal
Congratulations to all students who completed the faction cross country this afternoon. You have my utmost respect. Cross country is the most difficult physical education event for the year. That is why we do it. While easy things are terrific, it is important for students to challenge themselves. Doing things that make us uncomfortable increases resilience. Avoiding those things is not a long-term solution. Whether your child finished first, last or in between, I congratulate them on making the effort.
Thanks to Mr Hall, our teachers and some parent volunteers for making the event possible.
ATTENDANCE
The School Education Act 1999 requires parents to ensure that children of compulsory school age attend school on each day that the school is open for instruction. If children are absent from school, a parent or responsible person must provide the school with an acceptable explanation within three days of the absence.
At Shelley Primary School, we endeavour to provide all students with the best possible education. We can only do this effectively if children attend all, or almost all, school days. At Shelley our average attendance rate, across the entire student body, is more than 92%. Unless your child is unwell, please send them every day.
BUILDING AND GROUNDS
A contractor has completed installation of a fire escape door in the library. We are now able to host much larger functions in that space which is a great result with our 50th Anniversary celebrations commencing next year.
I met with a consultant from DoE contract management on Tuesday regarding the load capacity of the electrical infrastructure in B Block. Tenders will be called in August for reconnecting that block to the main supply and the supply and installation of a new switchboard. The intent is to complete the upgrade during the Christmas holiday period. A sum of $150 000 has been allocated by DoE to support this significant upgrade.
50th ANNIVERSARY
With the 50th anniversary approaching, we have formed a committee to map out a schedule of events. Our committee nominated Friday 9th May 2025 as the date for our main school event. Our school will be open from 2:00pm – 6:00pm.

Year 6 3D Printing
Year 6 students have been learning how to create useful 3D printed items in digital technologies class. They digitally designed, printed and tested a 3D printed fan. Students used problem solving skills to assemble a functional electrical circuit with a switch to power their fans.
